30 Days Hot Yoga Challenge

Bikram Hot Yoga

Bikram Yoga is a system of hot yoga, devised by Bikram Choudhury and based on the teachings of Bishnu Ghosh, that became popular in the early 1970s. The class consists of a fixed sequence of 26 postures, namely a fixed sequence of 24 asanas and two breathing exercises,  practised in a room heated up to 41 °C, intended to replicate the climate of India. All Bikram certified teachers teach with a standardized dialogue to run the class. There are no demonstrations by the teacher; only verbal instructions.

Refer to the article here.

All Bikram Yoga instructors at 2Be Yoga are Bikram certified and classes adhere strictly to the traditional Bikram method of teaching.  These are some pointers that every traditional Bikram Yoga studio around the world would adhere too, and we ask that our practitioners respect these principles.

  • Hydrate before coming to class, preferably at least 2 hours before class, or the night before.
  • Refrain from eating one to two hours prior to the start of class. If you must eat, go for something light like a banana.
  • Wear as little clothes as possible because the room is hot (up to 41 degrees Celsius). Sports bra top & shorts for females, and shorts alone for males. If you really need a long top, go for something sleeveless.
  • If it is your first class you will need to register.  Please arrive 20 minutes before class starts.
  • Cover your mat with a long towel. You will sweat from head to toe - That’s for sure!
  • Be in the room before the teacher enters the room. All classes start punctually and late comers will not be allowed entry.
  • If you are new to Bikram Yoga, choose a mat on the second or third row, so that you can follow the seasoned practitioners at the front row.
  • Look straight ahead at yourself in the mirrors.  There is no point in looking at the teacher as they do not demonstrate. Only verbal instructions are given.
  • Follow the dialogue. Start and end the postures with the dialogue. Starting/stopping early or late disrupts the flow in the class and in your mind.
  • Be aware of self-created, unnecessary, movements and habits (this includes noises).  Breathing should only be audible to you and should be through your nose only. Take a break if you find yourself panting.
  • Be kind to your fellow yogis and be aware of personal hygiene. Wash your feet before entering the yoga room. If you smoke, take a shower before attending the class. Refrain from using perfume or cologne.
  • If you have to blow your nose, bring in tissue paper to use.  Using your towel is gross.
  • Stay in the yoga room through out the entire class. If you need to take a break, sit down in Japanese style or lie down in Savasana. If an emergency arises, and you need to leave, please notify the instructor.
If it necessary to leave the room, do so in between postures only. If you re-enter the room, enter between postures.
  • The first water break is after Eagle Pose (approximately 25 minutes into class). After that, you may take water breaks between postures, never during a posture.
  • Please do not pretend to be drinking water and spill it on yourself.  Do not pour water over your head or other body parts.
  • Bring you water bottle into the class with you. There is no chance to go get it from outside while halfway through class.
  • There is no need for an extra towel to wipe your sweat. Just let it flow. Sweat is your natural air-conditioning. It has a cleansing effect and helps regulate your body temperature. Wiping is a bad habit that breaks your concentration and is a distraction for other practitioners in the room.
  • Refrain from using towels to improve your grip. Rabbit pose is the only posture that is an exception.
  • Change up where you practice and move around the room. Switch it up and find a new spot each time.
  • Practice with integrity. Do the postures the right way, one step at a time, to the best of your ability. You are your own best teacher. Only you truly know if you are doing your best.
  • Take at least a 2-minute savasana after class, then leave quietly.
  • Give yourself a pat on the back every time you leave the yoga room. Remember that the only bad class is the one you didn’t show up for.

It’s not the cleansing process at work. After a few more classes of full stretching and choking and tortures, you will feel what makes people get addicted to Bikram Yoga: the energized life like you’ve never experienced before.

Classes

Yes we do. We can arrange for it to be done in the studio or at your preferred location. We can even arrange private sessions on a yacht if you like! Different rates apply. Pls email [email protected] for more information.
Absolutely! Feeling nervous is  completely normal if you’re taking a yoga class for the first time. We do offer private lessons if you prefer that. Please email [email protected]  to schedule.
Aim to practice 3 to 5 times a week. The more often you practice, the faster you will see results. Especially with hot yoga and hot pilates classes, sometimes it takes a few sessions for your body to get acclimated to exercising in a heated environment. We encourage new students to practice at least 10 times in the first 30 days to give this yoga / pilates a fair chance and to really see the benefits in your daily life.
  • Ensure mobile phone & smart watch are kept in the locker and not with you in the yoga room.
  • All personal items must be left in the locker before entering the yoga room.
  • Avoid wearing heavy perfumes or colognes.
  • If you are a smoker, it is strongly recommended that you take a shower before entering the room for class.
  • Please ensure you complete a registration & waiver form prior to your very first class. Please arrive at least 20 minutes before the class starts so you can complete the registration and familiarize yourself around the studio.
  • If you have any medical condition(s), please inform the teacher before class.
  • Pick a mat in the 2nd or 3rd row of the class so that you can follow the class better.
  • Practice barefoot. You do not need shoes or socks in class.
  • Please do not leave the yoga room whilst class is in progress. If you need to take a break, sit or lie down on your mat.
All classes start and end on time. Please arrive 20 minutes before class to give yourself enough time to get ready. Once the teacher enters the class, strictly no further students will be allowed in.
We recommend that you refrain from eating 3 hours before a class, but it’s a good idea to drink plenty of water right up until the start. If you really have to take a bite, a banana or some fruits would be a good option. We encourage you to bring a bottle of water into the class with you so that you can stay hydrated throughout. However, do note that with the nature of certain hot classes, some teachers might not permit drinking in class, and drinking will only be allowed at the end of class. Bottled water, sports drinks and coconut water can be purchased from the reception.
We recommend that you book for class to ensure you have a spot in class. Our mobile app provides a booking system for you to confirm a space in your chosen class. Bookings for classes can be done 4 days in advance. Please give 10 hours notice to cancel your class booking if you are unable to attend, otherwise the class will be forfeited. Class bookings online and via the mobile app will close 60 minutes before the start of class. Your booking will be given up to someone else if you do not show up 5 minutes before the start of class.
  • An open mind
  • A bottle of water (we have a water dispenser & sports drinks for sale)
  • Clothes you feel comfortable sweating in
  • Change of clothes if attending hot yoga or hot pilates classes

We provide yoga mats for all practitioners (including those from Class Pass & FitCells) at the studio. Yoga mat towels & bath towels are also available for members and those on trial or drop-in. ClassPass & FitCells participants will have to bring their own towel (long enough to cover the mat) or rent from the studio at $2 each. The studio has shower facilities, toilets, lockers, toiletries & Kangen Water ionizer that you can use.

We recommend that you dress for comfort ensuring you have complete freedom of movement. For hot yoga / pilates classes, it’s normal to sweat so wear comfortable light clothing to allow the body to cool itself better. For Bikram Hot Yoga classes, refer to this article here.

To put it simply, hot yoga/pilates is yoga/pillates done in a heated room. The temperature goes up to about 40 degrees celsius. Some of out hot classes include: Bikram Yoga, E84, Inferno Hot Pilates, Hot Vinyasa, Hot Dharma Yoga Wheel, Hot Hatha, Hot HIIT Yoga.

Our classes are for all levels of practitioners.

Bikram Yoga & Inferno Hot Pilates.
It is normal to experience such symptoms when you are dehydrated. However, you should really be staying hydrated all the time for a sustainable practice and healthy lifestyle. To avoid such situations, drink lots of water by hydrating the night before coming for class. Supplement with electrolytes after class. Sports drinks and coconut water are also sold at the studio. Remember, it takes at least 45 minutes to an hour for your body to absorb water consumed so hydration should be done in advance and not prior to class.
It is normal and common especially for very new practitioners to experience such symptoms. When practicing in a heated environment, your body needs to work harder to deliver blood to your organs during exercise.  You generally  sweat more in a heated room and thus reduces fluid volume in your body.

As part or policies, you can only bring into the class a yoga towel and bottle of water.

The reasons for this policy are:

  • avoid cluttering of the class room
  • help you, and others around you, to focus on the class. Even when you're not consciously thinking about it, your mind still has your phone and other items near you present! The temptation to check them up is also greater when they are so near!
  • even when you think your notifications, alarms and sounds are off, it does happen sometimes they are not, and when the sounds go off it's distracting to you and everyone else in the room
  • some of our classes are hot and humid, your devices will suffer and potentially break under these conditions, believe us, it has happened!

So, please come prepared to leave all your items in the provided lockers and enjoy a fully focused class.
